A wedding reception idea to steal - a milkshake bar

Who doesn't love millkshakes? They're a great non-alcoholic option for a party and come in just about every flavor you can imagine. Chocolate, strawberry, Oreo ... a wedding reception isn't the place to stick to a diet in any case!

You don't need to have a formal sit-down dinner

Having different food options at your reception instead of a formal sit-down meal is an idea that's growing and growing in popularity. As well as a milkshake bar you could have a burger van, traditional fish and chips, Thai food, an ice cream van...

Your guests get to browse around and choose what they want to eat - and it's certainly an idea that kids will love and lets you do away with all the stress of having a formal kids' table and trying to put together children of vastly differing ages (and hoping they get along).

Elizabeth Anne Designs recently highlighted this retro rockabilly milkshake bar and I LOVE this idea. Having a milkshake bar at your reception is a guaranteed hit.  Add the adorable decor and everyone's favorite toppings from sprinkles, cherries to gummy bears and you have a serious winner.

If you're having a DIY wedding then this is something you could possibly replicate yourself - although we recommend you have waiting staff in charge of the milk bar!

Here's a few highlights to look out for:

  • Traditional striped paper straws
  • Bar style seating with high stools
  • A blackboard offering all the different flavors
  • Whipped cream option (definitely not diet time here)
  • Strawberries on sticks for dipping
  • A tray of sprinkle options
  • Double the milkshake bar up as an ice cream bar too - you can use the same sprinkles for both
  • Bunting that suggests strawberry, vanilla and chocolate flavor
  • Retro stripes as a backdrop to give that vintage feel

An Affordable Wedding Guide for a Handmade Wedding

An Affordable Wedding Guide for a Handmade Wedding

This beautiful wedding was filled with warm and personal touches and many details straight from the heart. All of the quilts were made by the bride's mom.  The bride's wedding dress was custom made on Etsy, and all the flowers and vintage decor display was designed by the talented Annette Gomez. Guests wrote well wishes to the couple on a vintage typewriter during the cocktail hour, and a personal chef created the most delicious menu! The evening ended with family and friends dining in candle light under an old oak tree, and eating slices of lemon bars and organic banana cake. Perfection.

First Ever - Bridal Market Photo Share

First Ever - Bridal Market Photo Share

Justin Miller, the CEO of DejaMi, the developers behind WedPics and Techbrides, have come up with a unique idea for editors and retailers to share photos taken at bridal markets in New York beginning next weekend Saturday Oct.13th.

If you are attending the the show at Pier 94, the one at the Hilton or, one of the many designer showrooms throughout the city, download Wedpics to your smart phone, and take some shots with the app. This is the first time technology of this type has been available at a bridal market.

Wedpics has provided a free version of the app and has set up a special market album at the link below:

http://www.wedpics.com/album/#MzcwNg==

To access the market album use code: market2012

Obviously, Wedpics is optimized for group sharing of the wedding party and guests, but we know that the app will work perfectly for wedding industry professionals to snap shots and create a repository of market/fashion images.

Example:

Mary, a retailer, might be over at the Hilton and take a picture of a Palomba Blanca dress in their booth. Susan, a wedding blogger, might be over at Vera Wang's show and take some shots of the latest gowns on the runway.

After market week, both Mary and Susan will have access the complete album with both images. Now, multiply this process by many participants, taking lots of shots, and we will end up with one mammoth market photo album.

Those not attending market will also be able to access the album and see images of the show.

Try it out! Take a few images of gowns, people, locations and share them to the album.

Here is the app on itunes here it is for Android

After market, we'll post the results.

A Handmade Backyard Wedding

A Handmade Backyard Wedding

I cannot stop gushing about this wedding. Everything was handmade from the pom poms sent pre-wedding by wedding guests to the pizzas made by the brides mother. All of the beautiful flowers are from the grooms mother's garden and a florist friend's boutique. The day before the wedding friends helped to hang streamers and bunting. When the ceremony began friends and family members played and sang the music while the bride's youngest brother manned the snow cone machine. A cake buffet, confetti and badminton games ended the amazing day. Thanks to Eric Ronald Photography for allowing me to share these great images with all of you!
