8 Ways to Have an Eco-Friendly Wedding

The options for an eco-friendly wedding are endless. There are so many big and small ways a bride and groom can be eco-friendly when it comes to planning their wedding.

Here are some ideas I thought were perfect:

  1. Start with the invitations. Use recycled paper for your wedding invitations. Or go the digital route by creating a wedding website that allows your guests to see important information and RSVP to your wedding, without using any paper. You can also send out recycled paper invitations, but have guests still respond online, to cut down the use of paper. I really loved both the recycled paper wedding invitation idea and creating a wedding website.
  2. Picking your venue for your wedding is the first thing you will want to think about when planning a wedding in general, but what about an eco-friendly wedding? Well, parks, botanical gardens, museums, wineries and vineyards are some ideas I think are perfect because each show how important the environment is for both the bride and groom.
  3. Work with local vendors. Give back to your local community when planning an eco-friendly wedding. It keeps transportation emissions down and you are giving back to your own hometown or the town in which the wedding is taking place.
  4. If eco-friendly is the route you are looking to go, but you don't know anything about how to go about doing so, hire a wedding planner that specializes in eco-friendly weddings. It will help you execute the ideas you are looking for.
  5. Instead of favors, donate the money to a local charity or organization. Idofoundaton.org is a great website, it helps brides and grooms make charity apart of their wedding and make a donation to an organization of their choice.
  6. Know any local gardeners or farmers? This is a great way to incorporate fresh bouquets for your bridesmaids and for centerpieces at your wedding reception. See if there any farms that grow flowers organically. Also, farmers can provide fresh local produce for your wedding day menu.
  7. Have a vegetarian and organic wedding menu. Find a catering company that specializes in this kind of menu and the vision you are looking for. Talk to local farmers and farmers markets about finding a catering company that does this.
  8. For your wedding rings consider finding a jeweler or jeweler website that specializes in creating environmentally friendly wedding rings. When I was looking for some ideas about this, I came across GreenKarat.com. They are based in U.S. and Canada. The company works with environmentally friendly materials and each ring is handmade to order.
