Wonder why the bride and groom should not see each before the wedding? Or why it is important for the bride to have something borrowed and something blue? Here are some of the major superstitions that make any wedding memorable.

Something old, new, borrowed and blue: The something old represents the bride's past and the new represents the future ahead for the for the couple. Something borrowed usually comes from someone who has been happily married and blue represents fidelity and love.

Guests wearing white at the wedding: Obviously, one guest will not take the attention away from the bride if they wear white, but let's be honest, wearing white to a wedding is just not right. This is truly up for debate, because guests at one time weren't allowed to wear black either. These days either color can be worn, but discretion is advised.

Seeing each other before the wedding: This is an age old superstition that dates back to the time when couples had arranged marriages. Families were worried that the couple would change their minds, so they weren't allowed to see each other the day before the wedding. Today, while many couples still keep this superstition alive, many forgo it.

Raining on your wedding day: While we would all love a beautiful sunny day on our wedding day, a rainy one is actually good luck. It represents cleansing and fertility.

Not sending "Thank You" cards to Guests: It is both a taboo and just good etiquette to send a hand-written thank you to everyone who celebrated your wedding even if they didn't bring a gift and if you have said thank you in person. Send the thank you a few weeks after the wedding.

Crying on Your Wedding Day: Crying on your wedding day is good luck. If a bride sheds tears on her wedding, it means that she won't shed any tears during her marriage.

The Six Pence Penny in Your Shoe: According to Irish belief, a penny in a shoe represents prosperity for the couple. It ensures wealth and good fortune.
