Surprise! Your Bridesmaid is Pregnant! Now What?

You are busy planning your wedding, everything is coming together quite nicely and then surprise!

You are busy planning your wedding, everything is coming together quite nicely and then surprise! One of your bridesmaids tells you she is pregnant. At first you share in her excitement and can't wait to start the baby planning and then you remember you are still planning a wedding...and she will have to wear a bridesmaid dress, among other concerns you have.

What do you do? Do you ask her to step down? After all this is your wedding, right? Or do you work around this and take your bridesmaid's feelings ( and erratic hormones that are going to come) into consideration?

First thing you do is don't panic. This isn't the end of the world! You can work this out!

The bridesmaid dress:

If you haven't ordered your dresses yet, and you aren't a "brideszilla", you can have each of your bridesmaid select their own style. And if you are really lax about this, even let them choose their own fabrics. This would really help your bridesmaid pick a style and fabric that works best for the crazy changes that will come down the pike as her pregnancy progresses.

An empire strapless dress could be your pregnant bridesmaid's best bet. See if the bridesmaid dress designer has maternity bridesmaid style options for the dress you are looking at as a potential bridesmaid dress. If you have ordered your dresses, you may need to order the dress that is few sizes larger and expect that your bridesmaid may need to make a few more trips to the seamstress than the rest as her body changes in the next several months.

The fabric should be taken into consideration, a silk satin or a chiffon material dress would probably be ideal fabrics for a pregnant bridesmaid. Length of the gown is important too. Your pregnant bridesmaid may not want to wear a short dress if she is seven to eight months pregnant the day of your wedding.

Take into consideration that like your wedding is a special time in your life, this is also a special time for your bridesmaid, she is about to become a Mom. You may want to loosen your ideas about what you expect your bridesmaids need to look like. Take your bridesmaid's needs into consideration.

The pictures:

You have two choices here. You can have your photographer hide the fact that she is pregnant or have fun with this! See if your photographer is willing to do some fun photos showing your bridesmaid's belly. This is a special time for her as your wedding is for you, share the love together!

The wedding planning:

Your bridesmaid may be hormonal, tired and possibly nauseous throughout her pregnancy, so you will have to expect she may not be able to help out in the planning as your other maids could. Give her minimal tasks throughout. While your bridesmaid will want to help as much as she can since she hasn't forgotten that this is your day, there may be times she physically can't, so be considerate of that.

The shoes:

We can't forget the shoes! Your pregnant bridesmaid may not want to wear heels, so other than flip-flops, take a look at the wide variety of stunning shoes by Dessy!
