Something blue for your summer wedding day ...

A blue summer wedding day to inspire, choose different shades of blue for your bridesmaids

You know the rhyme ... "Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue ...?"

Well today we're putting together some inspiration for a blue wedding day.

Take this countrystyle bouquet created by stylist Amanda Taffinder. Tied up with a blue velvet ribbon, it's simple but oh so pretty.

Seasonal flowers

When you're deciding on your wedding color scheme, nature is a good place to start. Think about the seasonal flowers that will be available - you'll cut down your florist bill and you will be keeping your green credentials intact, because you won't be choosing expensive blooms flown in from foreign climes.

And as you can see from the bouquet above, flowers that bloom at the same time of year tend to go well together, in terms of color and foliage.

Talk to your florist about what's available but if you're having a blue summer wedding you can be thinking about delphiniums, forget me nots, love in a mist, hydrangeas ... Dusky pinks and coral reds will add a striking contrast.

Blue Summer Wedding

Alternatively you could steal the differing blue from the season's flowers for your mix-and-match bridesmaid dresses.

Individual

Very clever how this beautiful bride below chose to accessorise the bridesmaids with the palest of cream roses, each tied with a satin ribbon to match their individual dresses, whilst she visually tied it all together by including each shade of blue into her own bouquet. As ever, it's the smallest of details that create a perfect whole; in this case, the bridesmaids' necklaces echoed the bride's handheld flowers and vice versa. The maids' dresses, Dessy Collection Style 2943, are shown below (from left) in Sapphire, Lapis, Cerulean, Cornflower, Cloudy and Spa.

Love the confidence of this bride too - who went for an ombre effect (with the colors graduating down in depth). That means each girl gets to choose the color which suits her best - and if you wanted to take it a stage further you could opt for different designs of bridesmaid frocks.

Whichever way you choose to play it, a blue summer wedding would be beautiful, and with over 20 shades of blue bridesmaid dresses to select from, Dessy has to be your first port of call!.
