What If (Gasp!) You Don't Like Your Engagement Ring?

What If (Gasp!) You Don't Like Your Engagement Ring?

The idea of not liking your engagement ring from the person you plan to spend the rest of your life with, can give any girl heart palpitations, so what do you do? How do you handle this?

First and foremost, be honest with him from the moment you say yes, (but please don't just blurt it out) because your fiance probably took a lot of time and effort in finding just the right ring for you and his nerves were probably through the roof hoping you would say "yes" you will want to be sensitive to his feelings.

Let him know that you love him, but this isn't the ring you would have chosen for yourself. Remember since this is a piece of jewelry that is a lot of money and both want to be happy with it.

Some girls may say it's not about the ring, it's about what the ring stands for and many look at it this way, but if you don't, let him down gently. Because this isn't just some ring, it is a significant piece of jewelry that will be on your hand for the rest of your life.

If you don't have the heart to tell him the truth, maybe make some subtle changes to the ring as you two begin designing your wedding bands. Explain to him that you love him and you love the ring, but there are some adjustments you would like to make.

For brides out there that are considering getting a new ring, remember what this ring symbolizes and remember that your fiance took the time to pick out something he loved and is giving it to you.

So the next question girls have to ask is whether the engagement ring is something you and your fiance should pick together or do you leave him to his own devices? Check out our post "Picking Out the Engagement Ring: Should He or Should You?"

After all, you don't want happening to you what happened to Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and the City, so just be honest about your engagement ring if you really (and I mean REALLY) hate it.
